Who we are
The Environmental Education Centre of Eleftherio-Kordelio, in Thessaloniki, was established in 1995 by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Municipality of Eleftherio-Kordelio. In 2003 another Environmental Education Centre was established in the village of Vertiskos by the Ministry and the local Community. Since 2011 the two centres have merged, the headquarters being in Eleftherio-Kordelio. Another 50 similar Centres have been established and operate throughout Greece in order to serve Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development in schools and local communities. The staff of Eleftherio-Kordelio & Vertiskos Environmental Education Centre currently consists of four teachers from various disciplines.

Our goals
- We aim at educating students – future citizens to be active and think critically.
- We support teachers to approach Education for the Environment and Sustainability in their everyday practice.
- We assist citizens to actively care for the environment of their town.
We work on environmental education in a context that correlates nature conservation to sustainability, solidarity and social justice.
